Roots and Wings’ mission stems from the ideology that no matter what background you come from, your life matters. The youth of this country are watching these events unfold and it’s up to us to take action. We share in your feelings of overwhelming sadness for the loss of life that has caused people to mobilize all around the world to seek justice. We want you to know, we are committed to using our platform to bring attention to injustices happening in all our communities.
People are feeling the need to do something, to take action, to be present and to put an end to racial injustices around the world. The young adults we support are disproportionately, people of color. Many suffer from housing instability, unemployment, mental health concerns, trauma and marginalization due to poverty.
It takes you to make a difference. How will you get specific about the world you live in? What changes can you help to make? Could you become a mentor with our organization and help guide the lives of the young adults we support who have aged out of the foster care system? We believe you can. We believe you can make a difference and collectively, we can all make a difference. We believe you will find the peace and solace you are looking for by helping someone else.
As an organization, Roots and Wings challenges you to:
- Acknowledge what you have to offer and use it for the greater good.
- Hold yourself and those around you accountable.
- Commit to educating yourself and self-reflecting about the role you can play.
- Break your silence, get involved and be a part of the solution.
Don’t let the lives of the young adults we support go unnoticed. Witness their lives, their accomplishments, their struggles. We welcome you with open arms to be a part of the work we are doing on a daily basis. For more information about becoming a mentor, please visit us on our website.
We see you. We hear you. We stand with you.
With love, light and peace,
Jessica Guberman, Ph.D.
