Impact
We are the only non-profit in the state of New Jersey exclusively dedicated to serving aged-out foster youth over the age of 21.
Economic challenges, specifically as they relate to the housing market, can create insurmountable hurdles for our program members.
Former foster youth face higher risks of homelessness. More than 1 in 5 will become homeless after the age of 18. Although reunification is the ultimate goal, less than half of these young people return to their families.
Roots & Wings provides an impactful financial gift to successful program graduates giving them a much-needed safety net as they transition into full independence.
Their accomplishments speak for themselves:
In 2022, Roots & Wings served 21 young adults, of which 3 completed their bachelor’s degrees and are currently employed full-time. As of 2023:
- 3 transitioned into safe and stable housing.
- 5 are pursuing a 2 or 4-year degree with 2 more expected to begin college in the fall.
- 1 CDL near completion.
- 1 finishing his Norwescap training program as a life skills coach.
- 100% have a savings account.
- 4 expected RISE graduates this year.
Due to frequent disruptions in their education, aged-out foster youth often have limited academic opportunities and/or life skills.
Roots & Wings provides practical tools and strategies allowing our program members to be engaged and productive in their studies and have exceptional outcomes. We stand in awe of their resilience and determination!
Graduates of our program include a teacher, a flight attendant, retail managers, a vet tech, cosmetologists, a mechanic, medical techs, small business owners, a TV news producer, a real estate agent, social workers, security agents, a personal trainer, and so much more!
We are so proud!
Since 2007, Roots & Wings has helped change the course of 160 young people’s lives.
